WELCA
Women of the Evangelical Church in America
Welcome to the home page for Christ the King's Women of the ELCA! Listed below is a sampling of the Southeastern Synod's programming that our congregation supports. During the year we have monthly meetings of the SON Circle as well as quarterly Saturday events, periodic quilting workshops and other special happenings such as the annual Cookie Walk fundraiser. Check out the calendar button on the left and see what works for you! I invite you to join in as your schedule allows -- we welcome old friends, new friends and especially the friends we haven't yet met!
- The 2009 theme for the Southeastern Synod Women of the ELCA is "In One Spirit". The convention will be September 18-20, 2009, in Savannah.
- The 2009 Love Offering, funds collected during the fiscal year running 2/1/09-1/31/2010, will be given to the Women's Prison Minstries of Georgia to be used at the Pulaski State Prison for Women in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
- The 2009 In-Kind Gifts, collected at the 2009 Convention in Savannah, are baby diapers and baby clothes of undershirts, small hats and nightgowns. They will be given to Lutheran Services of Georgia to be used in the Savannah area.
- We support Lutheran World Relief in their endeavors by sewing quilts, sewing school bags and filling with supplies, preparing health kits, collecting soap and more. The 2009 goal for the Synod is 28,000 pounds.
- Campbell's Labels - The UPC code (bar codes) should be cut and packaged in envelopes or paper bags of 100 codes. Whole labels are no longer accepted. Contact Gail Trimble for a list of all product labels collected or visit www.labelsforeducation.com.
- Pop Tab program benefiting Ronald McDonald House - Collect the shiny pull tabs from soup cans, pet food cans and soda cans and bring them to the church. There are 9 Ronald McDonald houses in the southeast, 3 in Georgia (2 in Atlanta, 1 in Macon).
- Global Health Ministries - women of the ELCA can help by providing bandages or knitted baby blankets (receiving size).
Purpose Statement of the Women of the ELCA
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.
I look forward to each meeting and event because of the wonderful women that gather. The many gifts of God are present in you and I am blessed over and over by each of you!
Peace,
Gail Trimble
