A Message from the Pastor
If you’re in grades 9 - 12, you and I are going to be spending a lot of time together this year! For those of you who haven’t met me yet, I’m Pastor Seyward, I’m new to Christ the King, and I’m going to be planning some fun events for the senior high youth.
First of all, we’re going to have a new meeting time. The senior high youth group (grades 9 - 12) will now be meeting every Thursday night at 6:59 p.m., beginning August 19. Now, I realize that 6:59 p.m. is a strange time to meet, but you have to admit, it’s memorable!
We’ll do something different each Thursday. Some weeks we will focus on worship, and other weeks we will do games or another fun event. There will likely be snacks involved! Over the year, we will cover a variety of topics and spend time getting to know each other and grow as a group. This weekly meeting time will work out best if you come every week, so I really hope you all will! Oh, and our first order of business will be to come up with an awesome new name for our group.
Aside from our Thursday times together, we will also hold several additional events throughout the year. The first one you may already have seen advertised in the church bulletin: whitewater rafting on August 22! If you like pizza and having a good time rafting with friends, come see me for more details and to sign up for this fun event! Later on in the winter, I think it would be fun to go on a ski trip. Also, we’ll be having a Christmas cotillion, a fabulous evening out on the town with fine dining and exchanging gag gifts, all dressed in our best, of course! Next summer there will be an opportunity to go on a mission trip and meet high schoolers from other Lutheran churches in different parts of the country – more details to come!
These are just some of the ideas I have in store for us, and I would love to hear what you guys want to do as well! Our first meeting on Thursday, August 19, will be a time for me to meet you all and find out how we want to spend our Thursdays – it’s your youth group, after all, and I want to make sure we’re doing things you want to do.
So, as you enjoy the last few days of summer break, keep a couple of things in mind: Come to our first youth group meeting on Thursday, August 19 (at 6:59 p.m.)! Sign up for the whitewater rafting trip – the sooner the better!
I’m so excited to meet you all and get to know you – I just know this is going to be a great year with a wonderful senior high youth group!
